Tipey Joa Native Warriors
Our Mission:
Promote Health, Cultural Preservation, and Social Justice in Indigenous Communities.

HEALTH
Tipey Joa addresses Health Inequity through Strategic Planning and programming. Our mission is to promote health first, as it is a major determinant of a healthy and prosperous life. Systematic progress has to be made to improve health in terms of availability, accessibility, cost‑effectiveness, and quality. That is why Tipey Joa ensures we address our healthcare needs first, focusing on physical, mental, and spiritual health to have healthy individuals to create a healthy community.
Tipey Joa’s annual Health and Wellness Fair includes traditional and Western medical professionals to conduct health assessments, insulin checks, diabetes prevention training, and healthy eating. We also support community members who seek assistance with medical or dental emergencies and support individuals needing substance use treatment.
CULTURAL PRESERVATION
Tipey Joa achieves cultural preservation by teaching Kumeyaay language courses at various local community colleges and Universities. We also educate our local community about cultural foods, harvesting, medicine, basketry, traditional clothing, and jewelry making.
It is important to maintain cultural heritage and to learn from our past for the benefit of the present and future generations.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Tipey Joa ensures communities have access to clean water, air, food sovereignty, environmental health, and safety. We contribute to social and economic justice by advocating for policy change proactively and when injustices occur.
In 2023, Tipey Joa advocated for policy change when a US Corporate energy company extracted Yuman human remains, neglected to notify tribal communities, and failed to release the remains for a proper burial. Tipey Joa is working with local government agencies to return our relatives.
